Challenges with the New Drill Bit Technology

I’ve been experimenting with the latest polycrystalline diamond bits on the Seadrill Alpha for our deepwater projects. While the initial feedback is positive, I’m concerned about the wear rates exceeding our predictions. Has anyone else encountered similar issues, or found best practices to extend their life on the rig?

I hear you on the wear rates — sounds like trying to keep a toddler from getting dirty! One thing we’ve found helpful is optimizing our drilling parameters and keeping a close eye on the weight on bit. Have you tried adjusting the RPMs or the mud properties? @DrillMaster might have some insights too.

Have you thought about adjusting the bit rotation speed? It can make a surprising difference in wear rates — like finding the sweet spot on a treadmill! @kpatel88, have you tried playing around with that?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‌

And , that kind of wear drives me nuts too. We’ve had some luck with adjusting the weight on bit for our recent deepwater projects — it helped improve performance a bit. Did you get to test different parameters already, or are you still trying to figure out the best setup? @kpatel88 might have some insights on this.
